Costs and money in Hungary:

Hungary is still an inexpensive place for travellers. Here are some information of the Hungarian currency and costs in Hungary:

Official currency: Forint (Ft, or HUF).
Coins: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200.
Notes: 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000, 20000.

All of the international credit cards are accepted in Hungary. Usually there is a mark on the doors of the place if they accept. Money exchange can be done in banks, travel agencies, hotels or at exchange offices in the main shopping areas.

Tipping is habitual in Hungary. The tip should be 10 % of the costs of the services, but only if you are satisfied with the service. Tipping is habitual in restaurants, taxis, hair-dressers, bars, cafes.

More and more shopping centers open in Hungary, especially in Budapest so in this aspect Hungary is becoming more westernized. If you are interested in buying hand-made folklore products, search for them in Váci utca or in the Castle Hill area and if you are focused on buying real antiques than we recommend you to visit Falk Miksa utca or go to the Ecseri Flea-Market. On weekends there is an open-air flea market of private people selling their stuff from home, it is in Petőfi Csarnok. In case of good weather it worths a visit.
